Everyone agrees that cloud computing is here to stay… But that may be where the agreement ends. At BluePoint Data, our vision for cloud computing is as follows:
First, we believe that virtually all companies will embrace cloud computing, to some degree during the next five years.
Second, we expect that the implementation of these clouds will not be monolithic, customers will not utilize only one provider, and significant portions of this cloud infrastructure may continue to reside on the customer premises.
Third, we realize corporate IT infrastructure is more of a tossed salad than it is a melting pot. As a result, application integration and the dependence on legacy platforms and the importance of proximity will likely cause a slower than expected (or even desired) migration to cloud computing for medium to large sized organizations. Cloud computing companies will be keeping watch to see this progression of companies seeking managed IT services.
Lastly, we know that many applications may never make it to the cloud, and may continue to be hosted by more traditional means for the foreseeable future. As information about the benefits of cloud computing becomes more prevalent, minds may be changed, but for now at least, many continue to forgo cloud computing in favor of traditional managed IT services or in house management.
